Translating Science into Medicines: How to Move Scientific Discovery from Your Lab to the Clinic

Do you think your lab has made a discovery that has potential to improve patient care but you’re not sure what it would take to move that finding to the clinic?  If so, this course is designed to teach you the basics of the process.  Topics to be covered include an overview of the kinds of academic discoveries that are most likely to have utility, patents and the patenting process, approaches to obtaining funding for the translational process, the development pathway for new drugs and devices, and the resources available at the MGH to help investigators who want to take on this challenge.  These presentations are intended to be an introduction to these topics for both basic science and clinical/translational investigators who have not been involved in the translational process in the past.  They will provide an overview of the topics as well as specific examples taken from academic discoveries and work at the MGH and elsewhere.
