As the deep freeze sets in, the Division of General Internal Medicine’s Hospital Medicine Unit (HMU) continues its efforts to spread smiles throughout MGH! This winter, we have announced our latest Happiness Hero – Dr. Denisa Gace!

We founded the HMU Happiness Committee to promote optimism, resilience, and camaraderie. This winter, we celebrate two years of Happiness Heroes at MGH. The award identifies those who inspire joy and convey enthusiasm throughout the day.

In stark contrast to the chilly winter wind, our winner Denisa Gace has been recognized by numerous colleagues within the department as a Happiness Hero for her "infectious optimism" and warm spirit. Dr. Gace is a tremendous clinician and leader within the HMU. She is the Associate Director of Operations with many responsibilities including managing scheduling for the 100+ clinicians. “Dr. Gace brings an amazing energy and enthusiasm to work each and every day. Her spirit of optimism is contagious and we are all so fortunate to have her on our team,” said Melissa Mattison, MD, Chief of HMU.

“Denisa beams happiness from the moment she walks into Bulfinch at 6:45am. While many of us have been carrying flu and other URI’s around, the only infectious thing about Denisa is her optimism!" explained a colleague. "She is a real morale booster, and someone I always look to for a good laugh.”

It is clear that Denisa not only excels in her duties and daily responsibilities but does so with a spirit worthy of recognition. We are proud to award her the Happiness Hero Award not only because of her jubilation but also for her unique ability to transform situations and people around her. If you see Denisa in the coming weeks, please take a moment to congratulate her on this achievement. And as a reminder, in your travels around MGH, please be mindful of Happiness Heroes all around you, as this distinction will be awarded quarterly.
